BRONX, N.Y. - Senior Katie Burdeaux tossed a complete-game shutout and the Owls' bats exploded for four first inning runs, as the Owls (5-21, 3-5) picked up a 6-0 victory in the first game of a doubleheader against conference rival Fordham (26-13, 7-3). The Owls dropped the second game, 5-3.

Just two days after holding George Washington scoreless for 13 innings, Burdeuax (2-10) responded by tossing seven shutout innings while striking out seven in the Owls' 6-0 victory in the first game.

She was also given some insurance runs before she even set foot on the mound, as the Owls opened the game with a four-run first inning.

Senior Courtney Norene knocked in senior Amanda Carver with a double down the line for the first run of the game. She would be knocked home just one batter later when senior Nicole Lee singled past the shortstop to give the Owls the early 2-0 lead. The Cherry and White would add two more runs following back-to-back-to-back singles by junior Michelle Lerner, junior Krystle Metzler and senior Chante Pleydle, giving the Cherry and White a 4-0 lead after the first.

The Owls tack on two more runs - one in the second thanks to a Carver triple and one in the fifth on a Fordham fielding error - en route to the 6-0 win.

Burdeaux finished the week with 20 strikeouts and a 0.87 ERA in over 20 innings of work.

In the second game, the Owls used a late three-run rally in the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead, but the Rams rallied with two runs of the own in the bottom half of the inning to hang on for the 5-3 win.

The Owls took the 3-2 lead in the fifth thanks to freshman Jess Hirschbuhl's two-RBI ground rule double and a sac fly by Norene.

But with the game tied 3-3, Fordham's Pellichio belted the game-winning two-run home over the left field fence to give the Rams the 5-3 advantage.

Freshman Sarah Reynolds (3-4) took the loss for the Owls, pitching six innings while allowing four earned runs and striking out one.

The Owls return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Big Five rival Penn. Action is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m.
