Temple Football Works Out on Independence Mall on Friday Morning

PHILADELPHIA-- While most people were still in bed or getting ready for work, the Temple football team was working out this morning. The team arose very early for its workout on Independence Mall, gathering at 6:30 a.m.
The players' light workout, which included running and conditioning drills, was filmed by Fox 29 TV. The Temple cheerleaders and Diamond Gems greeted fans during the workout.
In order to use the Independence Mall area, Temple had to secure a permit from the U.S. Parks Department. The Owls wore sneakers only, not cleats, to preserve the lawn.
The Owls' adventures throughout the city continue in two weeks. The Temple players will participate in their own version of the "Amazing Race," visiting 10 Philadelphia landmarks while racing against each other. The event is set for Wednesday, July 29. More details will follow later.
Temple opens the 2009 season on Thursday, Sept. 3 with Villanova at 7 p.m. in the inaugural Mayor's Cup at Lincoln Financial Field.
