PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple University football team hosted its fourth annual Fan Fest on Tuesday evening at Lincoln Financial Field's Headhouse Plaza following the team's media day activities on the field.
More than 3,000 fans attended the event which featured autograph and photo opportunities with the players and coaching staff as well as live music, Hooter the Owl, the cheerleaders, and the Diamond Gems Dance Team. Clowns, face painters, the Philadelphia Zoo on Wheels, an inflatable zone, and a dunk tank also enhanced the day's activities.
During the media segment, head coach Al Golden announced that redshirt junior QB Vaughn Charlton (Landenberg, Pa.) will get the starting nod when the Owls host Villanova in the inaugural Mayor's Cup next Thursday. The 6-4, 235-lb quarterback redshirted last season. During the 2007 season, he played in seven games with four starts. Charlton finished the season 78-of-137 for 808 yards and three touchdowns.
Temple opens the 2009 season on Thursday, Sept. 3 with Villanova at 7 p.m. in the inaugural Mayor's Cup at Lincoln Financial Field.
