Women's Soccer Drops First A-10 Match To Dayton, 4-0

Owls' offense struggles in first conference contest

Dayton, Ohio – The Temple women's soccer team (4-4-1, 0-1-0 A-10) lost their first conference match to undefeated Dayton (5-0-4, 1-0-0) Friday evening at Baujan Field. Unable to find a spark in their offense, the Owls were shutout by their A-10 foe 4-0.

Dayton opened the scoring in the 30th minute, when Owls keeper Kara Williams blocked a shot by Alysha Mallon. The rebound was quickly sent home by Lauren MacCormack to put the Flyers up 1-0. Four minutes later Emily Kenyon finished her own rebound off of Williams, giving Dayton a 2-0 advantage.

The Cherry and White could not find a groove in their offense, being out shot by a margin of 13-2 in the first half. TU junior Meridith Crowell the Owls' lone shot in the first half, leading the way with two on the game. Dayton pressured often, with Williams posting six saves in the period, 10 over the contest.

Dayton would tally another goal early in the second half, with Williams again making the intial save, but the rebound being sent home by UD's Cara Cornacchia. A final late insurance goal in the 88th minute by UD's Josie Grant would make the final 4-0.

Freshman Morgyn Seigfried tallied the only TU shot on goal in the second half.

 The Owls return to Ambler Sunday, continuing their conference play against Rhode Island at 1:00 p.m.
