Owl junior advances to semifinals of consolation draw
PHILADELPHIA - Junior Theresa Stangl won two singles matches Saturday at the Cissy Leary Invitational to advance to the semifinals of the consolation draw. Freshman Katharina Mittag also won her singles match as Temple went 3-2 on the day in competition held on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.
Senior Anastasiaa Rukavyshnykova, who won two matches Friday, lost her singles match to Vicky Brook of Yale, 6-2, 6-2. Junior Lucie Pazderova, who also won Friday, lost her lone match, 6-4, 7-5, to Kelly Holtzhausen of East Tennessee State.
Stangl downed Natalia Christenson of Columbia, 6-1, 6-2, and Penn's Daniela DePaoli, 4-1, retired. Mittag toppled Sydney Clark of Columbia, 6-1, 6-0.
Play resumes on Sunday.
