PHILADELPHIA - The top two teams in the Atlantic 10 Conference will be on display at the Liacouras Center Wednesday night when three-time defending regular season champion Xavier (12-5, 4-0) takes on two-time A-10 tournament champion #16/17 Temple (15-3, 3-0) in a regionally-televised showdown (7:00 p.m./The Comcast Network).
Temple, under the direction of head coach Fran Dunphy, has won four straight and 11 of its last 12 games. Reigning A-10 Player of the Week Ryan Brooks continues to pace the Owls, leading the team and ranking 10th in the league with a 16.1 scoring average. The senior co-captain is coming off a career-high 29 point effort in a win over UMass, a game in which he made seven of 12 three-pointers.
Sophomore Juan Fernandez, ranked among the A-10's top five in three-point shooting (42-94, .447), averages 13.4 points and a team-high 3.4 assists per game while junior Lavoy Allen (10.9 ppg., 10.3 rpg.) is one of three conference players averaging a double-double.
Xavier, under the direction of first year head coach Chris Mack, has won four in a row and six of its last seven games. Sophomore guard Jordan Crawford, a transfer from Indiana, leads the A-10 in scoring with a 19.1 average to top the Musketeers. Sophomore guard Terrell Holloway (11.0 ppg., 61 assists) and senior forward/center Jason Love (10.6 ppg., 9.0 rpg./38 blocks) also score in double figures.
