Temple Diamond Gems Take Fourth at Nationals

Temple Dancers Compete in Hip Hop Category

PHILADELPHIA – Over the weekend, the Temple University Diamond Gems Dance Team competed in its first ever national championship at the Universal Dance Association College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship, held at ESPN's Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida. Over 85 dance teams from across the nation competed in this prestigious event.

The Diamond Gems competed in the Division 1 Hip Hop Category and finished in fourth place. The Diamond Gems were the only team in their division who had not previously competed at this competition.

Under the direction of first-year coach Megan Teesdale, members of the Hip Hop routine were: Alyssa Spangler (Allentown, Pa.), Jillian Becker (Allentown, Pa.), Stepfanie McCaffrey (Liverpool, N.Y.), Katie Bertolet (Exeter, Pa.), Lacie McGowan (Hazelton, Pa.), Erin Johnson (Iselin, N.J.), Ashanti Chaloupka (Anchorage, Alaska), Brittany Lewis (Brigantine, N.J.), Sarah Stoner (Allentown, Pa.), Chelsea Wargo (Trenton, N.J.), Bria Walton (South Brunswick, N.J.), Lisa Falcone (Philadelphia, Pa.), Roneisha Smith-Davis (Philadelphia, Pa.), and Crystal Pizarro (Somerset, N.J.).

The Diamond Gems will continue to be in action at all men's and women's home basketball games for 2009-10 season.
