Volleyball Takes Charlotte to Five Sets in a 3-2 Road Loss

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Temple volleyball team took an early lead in its road match at Charlotte, but then had to rally to tie the score at 2-2 before ultimately falling by a score of 3-2 in the Atlantic 10 contest.
After winning the first set 25-22, Temple dropped the next two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-16. The Owls won the fourth set 25-17, but lost the match in the fifth set, 15-8.
Freshman Elyse Burkert led Temple with a double-double of 10 kills and 10 digs, while senior Ariel Pierre recorded a match-high 21 digs for the Owls.
After a 13-13 tie in the first set, the Owls went on a run and led the rest of the way, eventually taking the set by three points. The momentum stayed with Temple early on in the second set, but after the eighth tie at 11-11, the 49ers used a 7-1 run to take the lead for good and even the match at 1-1.
Temple struggled with hitting errors in the third set and allowed Charlotte to take a convincing win, but then rallied in the fourth set. The Owls dominated throughout, out-hitting the 49ers .429 to .000 in the set and tying the match at 2-2.
Unfortunately the Owls could not keep the offense going in the final set, and Charlotte took a 6-2 lead early and held on for the win.
Temple will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 17 in another road match at George Washington. The contest is set for 1:00 p.m.
