Men's Soccer Hosts Massachusetts and Rhode Island In A-10 Matches This Weekend

Owls are 2-1 in conference play
PHILADELPHIA - Currently tied for fourth in the Atlantic 10 standings, the Temple men's soccer team continues on its quest for a bid to the conference playoffs as they host Massachusetts and Rhode Island on Friday, October 22 and Sunday, October 24, respectively. The Owls own a 4-6-2, 2-1-0 in A-10 play record and are looking to pick up a few more points this weekend.
Temple jumped out to a 2-0 record in the A-10 with wins over Saint Joseph's and Dayton to open league play. Crushing their crosstown rival Saint Joseph's 3-0 in their conference opener, the Owls gained momentum heading into their first road weekend at Dayton and Xavier.
Sophomore Cody Calafiore propelled the Owls past Dayton with a two goal performance, scoring the first and game-winning goals of the match for a 2-1 win. He then netted a critical penalty kick in the team's contest at Xavier, forcing overtime to only see the Owls fall 2-1.
Calafiore has the hot foot as of late, currently leading the team in goals with five and points with 12. He earned Philadelphia Soccer Six honors this past week for his three-goal weekend in Ohio.
Defensively, the Owls have held opponents to 12 goals over the 12 games played this season. In net, redshirt-senior keeper Bret Mollon continues to show consistency, owning a .94 goals against average and 36 saves. He has a record of 3-6-2 on the season with four shutouts.
Massachusetts holds a slight advantage on the Owls in the conference standings, having a 3-3-6, 2-0-1 A-10 record. Rhode Island has been struggling through the season, looking for their first conference win with a 2-8-2, 0-2-1 A-10 record.
No. 21 Charlotte and Xavier tops in the A-10 standings, with the 49ers owning a perfect 4-0 record.
Action begins at 2:30 on Friday, October 22 as the Owls square off with Massachusetts. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday for Temple's match with Rhode Island.
