Owls falter after losing momentum at the end of the first set

PHILADELPHIA – After losing a solid lead late in the first set, the Temple volleyball team never recovered in a 3-0 loss to Duquesne by scores of 25-22, 25-15 and 25-9. Two players recorded double-doubles for the Dukes, who improve to 18-6 overall and 6-2 in the Atlantic 10.
Temple was led by Ashley Carr with nine kills and Ariel Pierre with a match-high 17 digs. Cecelia Spencer was strong at the net for the Owls with five blocks, including four solo blocks.
The Owls now stand at 4-19 overall and 1-8 in conference play.
Temple led the first set 20-16 and looked to be in control, but Duquesne battled to tie the score at 20 and then never lost momentum the rest of the match.
The Dukes hit .318 as a team while Temple hit .068. Sara Scheirman led the Dukes with 14 kills and 11 digs, while Allison Foschia tallied 11 kills along with a team-high 14 digs.
In a scheduling rarity, Temple will also play its next match against Duquesne. The Owls will travel to Pittsburgh for the 7:00 p.m. contest on Friday, Oct. 29.
