Volleyball Takes Duquesne to Four in Road Loss

Carr and Wallace notch double-doubles for the Owls

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – After tying the match at 1-1 with a second-set win, the Temple volleyball team lost the third and fourth sets in a 3-1 defeat at Duquesne (19-7, 7-3). Senior Ashley Carr and junior Collin Wallace led the Owls (4-20, 1-9) as both notched double-doubles.
Duquesne won the first set 25-18 but the Owls took the second set, 25-23. The Dukes then went on to win the match by scores of 25-13 and 25-21.
Carr knocked down a team-high 15 kills and tallied 11 digs, while Wallace recorded 13 kills along with a season-high 20 digs. Ariel Pierre led the Owls with a match-high 22 digs.
Sara Scheirman and Liz Homan each recorded a match-high 19 kills for Duquesne, with Scheriman getting it done defensively as well with a team-high 21 digs.
After getting out-hit .356 to .231 in the first set, the Owls improved their hitting efficiency in the second set. Temple dug out of a three-point hole to tie the score at 20-20, and got three kills from Carr in the final five points to take the set.
Temple was within one at 10-9 in the third set before a Duquesne run put things out of reach for the Cherry and White.
The Owls fell into an early hole in the fourth set at 7-3. They kept pace the rest of the way but were never able to tie it up.
Temple will return home for its second match this weekend as the Owls play host to Charlotte at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31.
