Volleyball Drops A-10 Home Match to Charlotte

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple volleyball team took Charlotte (14-12, 5-6) to extra points in the second set, but ultimately fell 3-0 to the 49ers by scores of 25-17, 29-27 and 25-21. The Owls (4-21, 1-10) were led by freshman Elyse Burkert with 10 kills and a hitting percentage of .500.
Temple has two Atlantic 10 home matches remaining as well as two on the road, and the Owls will drive up the street on Wednesday, Nov. 3 for a 12:00 p.m. match at La Salle.
Ariel Pierre and Chelsea Tupuola each tallied nine digs for Temple. Rikia Trischuk led the team with 26 assists and Jess Antosz tied for match-high honors with five blocks.
Bianca Rouse led all players with 13 kills for Charlotte, while Kara Raker added 10.
After struggling with hitting errors in the first set loss, Temple rebounded in a big way and out-hit Charlotte .444 to .250 in the second set, which saw 18 ties and 10 lead changes. The Owls had three chances at set point and also fought off two of Charlotte's set points. After Burkert fought off the second with a kill to tie the score at 27, Kathleen Hicks and Leah Leventhal knocked down back-to-back kills for the 49ers.
The third set saw eight ties and three lead changes, but Charlotte went on a run to lead 24-18. The Owls stayed alive for three more points before Rouse ended the match with a kill for the 49ers.
