PHILADELPHIA – After two wins against La Salle earlier this season, a third was not to be as the Temple volleyball team dropped a road match at city rival La Salle. The Explorers took the four-set win by scores of 25-20, 25-23, 21-25 and 25-21.
Temple falls to 4-22 overall and 1-11 in the Atlantic 10, while La Salle now stands at 5-23 for the season and is also 1-11 in conference play.
Freshman Elyse Burkert continued her impressive play for Temple with a double-double of a match-high 15 kills along with 13 digs. Rikia Trischuk also tallied a double-double with 43 assists and 14 digs, while Ariel Pierre led all players with 22 digs for Temple.
After the first set was tied for the fifth time at 16-16, La Salle used a 5-0 run to pull ahead and then held off the Owls the rest of the way.
The second set was tied a total of 16 times, but the Explorers knocked down three kills in the final five points to take a 2-0 lead for the match.
Temple rebounded and used a 10-1 run midway through the third set to get back in the match. The Owls out-hit La Salle .243 to .073 for that set, but errors once again plagued Temple in the final set as the Explorers pulled away for the win.
The Owls will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 5 in a home match against Rhode Island. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m. but may be moved to 5:00 p.m. – check owlsports.com for updates.
