Rhode Island Tops Volleyball in Three-Set Match

Owls can’t hold leads in loss to Rams

PHILADELPHIA – Rhode Island's Lauren McIntosh and Kayla Wilson proved too much for the Temple volleyball team, combining for 23 of their team's 42 kills in a three-set win against the Owls. The Rams (13-12, 4-8) won by scores of 25-17, 25-23 and 25-21.
Temple was led by Ashley Carr with nine kills and Jess Antosz with five kills and zero errors. Ariel Pierre tallied a match-high 15 digs, while Elyse Burkert and Chelsea Tupuola recorded 10 digs apiece. The Owls are now 4-23 overall and 1-12 in the Atlantic 10.
Temple trailed by just three, 13-10 in the first set before the Rams used a 6-0 run to pull away for good.
The Owls let the second set get away after leading until near the end. Rhode Island trailed 18-14 before mounting its comeback, and eventually tied the score at 21-21. Tied at 23-23, McIntosh knocked down a kill to give Rhode Island set point, and Ashley Tennant served an ace to get point number 25.
After trailing by eight points at 23-15, Temple went on a 6-3 run to narrow the gap but could come within no fewer than three points.
The Owls have one A-10 road match and one A-10 home match remaining. Temple will travel to Xavier for a 1:00 p.m. contest on Friday, Nov. 12.
