Men's Soccer Begins A-10 Play On Saturday Hosting Rival Saint Joseph's

Owls open conference schedule at 2:00 p.m. on October 9
PHILADELPHIA - Atlantic 10 play begins with an always intense rivalry game for the Temple men's soccer team (2-5-2), as the Owls host Saint Joseph's (1-7-0) on Saturday, October 9 at 2:00 p.m. The Owls are 2-2 in their last four games, looking to set forth on their conference schedule with a victory.
Reigning Philadelphia Soccer Six Co-Player of the Week junior Tyler Witmer continues to push the Temple offense, leading the team with three goals. The Owls have been struggling to find the back of the net, yet have been generating chances at will. Witmer leads the team and ranks second in the A-10 with 37 shots.
Senior Max Kinderwater and sophomore Cody Calafiore rank first and second on the team with three and two assists, respectively. Kinderwater earned Philadelphia Soccer Six Player of the Week honors for a three-assist day in the Owls' 4-0 drubbing of Rider.
Ryan Bradbury has been producing at a high level as a freshman, leading his class and ranking second on the team with two goals. He and Vaughn Spurrier are the only freshman to have scored in the first half of this season.
Redshirt-keeper Bret Mollon has continually been solid in net, posting a .95 goals against average. He secured his 20th career win in a 2-0 shutout of Rutgers on Sept. 19, now taied for second all-time with current volunteer assistant coach and former Owl Pat Hannigan.
The Owls are 33-13-7 all-time against their school rival, and look to continue their historical dominance on Saturday. Temple left Hawk Hill with a 2-1 win last season, and has not lost to Saint Joseph's since 2007.
The quest for a berth in the Atlantic 10 playoffs continues after this weekend, as the Owls travel to Ohio for matches at Dayton and Xavier on Oct. 15 & 17.
