Owls-Spiders meet in key A-10 showdown

RICHMOND, VA - The #17/19 Temple men's basketball team travels to Richmond Saturday for a nationally-televised game with the Spiders (2:00 p.m./ESPNU/1210 AM WPHT). The game features two of the hottest teams in the Atlantic 10 with the Owls (19-4, 7-1) having won eight of their last nine games and the Spiders (17-6, 6-2) boasting five wins in their last six contests.
Senior guard Ryan Brooks continues to pace the Owls, averaging a team-best 15.5 points per game while keying a defense that ranks fifth nationally in scoring defense (57.0 ppg.). Junior forward Lavoy Allen, one of three A-10 players averaging a double-double (10.9 ppg./10.2 rpg.) provides solid play in the paint. Sophomore guard Juan Fernandez (12.3 ppg.), slowed of late due to lingering effects of a blow to the head suffered at Fordham, gives TU one of the top perimeter threats (48-101, .435) in the conference. Senior guard Luis Guzman (5.3 ppg.) and sophomore Micheal Eric (4.9 ppg.) round out the starting five.
Sophomore Ramone Moore (6.0 ppg,) has scored double figures off the bench in each of the last two games while freshman Rahlir Jefferson (4.1 ppg.) reached a career high with 11 points in the win over Duquesne.
Head coach Chris Mooney has Richmond among the top of the A-10 with a solid defense (60.4 ppg.) and a balanced offense. The Spiders are led by junior Kevin Anderson 17.2 ppg.). Senior guard David Gonzalvez (13.1 ppg.) and junior forward Justin Harper (10.5 ppg.) also average double figures.
Temple leads the series 8-6 and have won four of the last five meetings.
