Box Score
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Temple women's tennis team opened its home schedule on Sunday, February 7, facing A-10 foe Xavier. The Owls dropped a 5-2 decision to the Musketeers to fall to 2-3 on the year.
Xavier claimed the doubles point by taking two of the three matches. Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova and Lucie Pazderova were ahead of Kelsey Kinnard and Tifanie Treece, 7-4, before the match went unfinished.
In singles action, Xavier took the points at the first, third, fourth and fifth flights. At number two, Pazderova picked up her first singles win of the season, defeating Treece 7-5, 6-3. May Johnson was Temple's other winner, taking a 7-6 (13-11), 6-4, decision from Kinnard at number six to improve to 3-1 this spring.
"This was a disappointing loss," commenting head coach Steve Mauro. "We have various injuries, but I believe we are still capable of winning the conference. Hopefully, from this point on, the women will step up to the challenge and work a little harder to come out ahead in our next match."
Temple falls to 2-3 overall and Xavier improves to 2-5. The Owls are back in action at Virginia Commonwealther on February 13.
