Late Rally Falls Just Short as Lacrosse Loses A-10 Opener at Richmond

Owls get four goals and four assists from senior Chelsea Rosiek

RICHMOND, Va. – They scored a season-high 14 goals, but the effort fell just short as the Temple lacrosse team lost to Richmond, 15-14 in their Atlantic 10 opener on Friday afternoon. The Owls (2-5) have now lost three games by two goals or fewer, and will look to rebound at George Washington on Sunday.
Richmond (4-6) got an impressive 11 saves from goalkeeper Erica Marrocco along with two from Victoria Roebuck, overcoming Temple's 36-25 edge in shots for the contest.
Temple senior Chelsea Rosiek continued what has been an impressive season so far, scoring four goals along with recording four assists. Missy Schweitzer put three goals in the net for the Owls and also tallied an assist.
Each team tallied 15 shots in the first half, but it was Richmond that took a 9-7 lead at halftime. The score was tied at each goal until both teams had four, after which Richmond went on to lead 6-4 and 9-5 before the Owls got back-to-back goals from Schweitzer to end the half down only two.
The second half saw runs by both teams, but despite dominating offensively with 21 shots to the Spiders' 10, Temple only managed one more goal than Richmond. It was the Spiders who came out with the momentum early, scoring four straight to lead 13-7 with 19 minutes remaining in the game.
The Owls answered with four straight of their own to narrow the margin to 13-11, but Richmond pulled back ahead by four.
In a furious rally with three minutes on the clock, Rosiek scored twice and Temple got a third goal from freshman Stephany Parcell, but the Owls still came short of tying the game and neither team scored in the final two minutes.
Temple will play another road game on Sunday, March 28, facing George Washington at 1:00 p.m.
