PHILADELPHIA – Gerard McMahon and Michael Bamonti have both joined the Temple Athletic Department in the Development Office under Associate Athletics Director Scott Koskoski. McMahon has filled the position of Assistant Director of Development, while Bamonti is the office's new Events and Projects Coordinator.
McMahon has been in the Philadelphia area for the last year, working as an account executive for Octagon Sports Marketing. McMahon headed the office's transition to the Philadelphia office, and initiated relationships with local businesses and media leaders.
“One the key components in our athletics development business plan is a dramatic increase in outreach to Temple's young alumni, undergraduates and former student-athletes,” said Koskoski. “We must achieve the broad participation of these groups in order to ensure the continued success of our programs. Gerard brings direct experience to his new position. He has created effective and creative campaigns at other programs and will bring that knowledge to Temple. Our donors will appreciate Gerard's energy and passion.”
Prior to his arrival in Philadelphia, McMahon spent two years as a marketing and development assistant at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn. McMahon is a 2007 graduate of Wake Forest University where he earned a bachelor's degree in business before going on to earn his master's in sport administration at Belmont.
While at Wake Forest, McMahon worked closely with the athletic department as both a student representative and intern.
“I am absolutely thrilled to join the Temple Athletics' team to endorse our devoted student-athletes and dedicated, loyal base of alumni, friends, and supporters,” said McMahon. “I look forward to the opportunity to embrace the Temple community and build further upon an already strong athletics' foundation.”
Bamonti is a familiar face in the athletic department at Temple after spending a year as a graduate extern in the marketing office. He is currently finishing up his master's of education in sport and recreation administration at Temple, and earned his bachelor's degree in history from Loyola College in 2003.
“It is always fulfilling to hire one of our own," Koskoski said. “Mike completed a successful graduate externship elsewhere in Athletics and proved to be ultra-responsible, outgoing and productive. We're thrilled to have him managing the wide and constant variety of special functions, projects and signature events Temple Athletics is known for. His is an integral part of our development operation and I look forward to his contributions.”
Over the summer of 2009, Bamonti completed an internship with the Philadelphia Freedoms and World TeamTennis, serving as operations supervisor. His previous collegiate experience includes one season as a compliance extern at the University of Pennsylvania. Bamonti worked in law offices after his graduation from Loyola College, serving as a paralegal for three different companies in the area from 2003 to 2008.
“It is very exciting that I am able to continue my career at an institution I've been fortunate to call home for the past two years, at a time when Temple Athletics is enjoying such a milestone year,” said Bamonti. “Athletics have played such a critical role in the way Temple has thrived and I look forward to being a part of that rich tradition moving forward. I hope to use this opportunity of joining the Development staff to embody and demonstrate the vision of Temple, as well as cultivate meaningful and prosperous relationships with those possessing a real passion for Temple Athletics and the University.”
