Owl Recruit Named to Team Stars & Stripes
PHILADELPHIA – Temple football signee Wyatt Benson (Philadelphia, Pa.) has been selected to play for Team Stars & Stripes at the 2010 Global Bowl in France later this month.
The 6-0, 215-lb. fullback and linebacker from The Haverford School signed a National Letter of Intent with the Owls in February. He is one of 37 high school seniors from seven states that will participate in this international game.
Team Stars & Stripes will be coached by Jeff Scurran, the head coach of Santa Rita HS in Tucson, Ariz. The team will face a Belgian All-Star team (aged 19 and under) on Saturday, March 20, in Amiens, France, following a week of practices and cultural sightseeing in Paris and Normandy.
A team captain, Benson attended the 2009 Al Golden Football Camp. He is a two-time first-team All-Inter-Ac and two-time first-team All-Delco honoree as well as a 2009 Philadelphia Inquirer first-team Southeastern Pennsylvania linebacker and the 2009 Mainline Football Player of the Year. Benson finished his prep career with 663 rushing yards, 217 receiving yards, 16 touchdowns, and 210 tackles.
