PHILADELPHIA – UC Davis's Gina Hoffmire scored seven goals, including the sudden-death overtime game-winner, to lift the Aggies (3-1) to a 14-13 win against Temple lacrosse (1-3) on Saturday afternoon. The Owls were led by sophomore Karly Cohen with five goals.
Temple led 8-7 at halftime in a game that was back-and-forth throughout. After tying 12-12 at the end of regulation, each team scored once in the first overtime period.
Neither team netted a goal in the first three-minute sudden death overtime, but Hoffmire collected the ball after a successful clear attempt by UC Davis, and her goal with 37 seconds remaining in the third overtime ended the game in favor of the Aggies.
Temple recorded 37 shots to UC Davis's 28, and also led the Aggies in nearly every other category. But Alyssa Cranska was solid in the net for UC Davis with nine saves, and TU's two keepers recorded only seven between them.
Sophomores Shelby Christopher and Missy Schweitzer scored two goals apiece for Temple, and freshman Stephany Parcell led the team with two assists.
Temple will return to action next Friday, March 13 at Jacksonville. The Owls' will be making the trip to Florida over Spring Break, and will play the Dolphins at 4:00 p.m.
