Marris fires two-hitter against the Bonnies

Box Score

AMBLER, Pa. -
The Temple softball team pounded out ten hits and produced eight runs on Thursday, April 1, while defeating Atlantic 10 rival St. Bonaventure in five innings at Ambler Field. The Bonnies were stifled by Owls pitcher Kristen Marris, who two-hit the squad.

The Owls were hot from the start, taking a 3-0 lead after one inning. With two outs, Ali Robinson drew a walk and Danielle Fagan followed with a single to put runners at first and second. Kayla Cook stepped in a delivered a single to right field, loading the bases for a Rachel Knable double to center field that promptly cleared them.

SBU's best chance to score came in the second inning. Hali Enderby led off with a single and Maureen Wells drew a walk to put two runners on with no outs. One out later, with runners on the corners, Marris took control and struck out the final two batters to get out of the jam.

TU tacked on a run in the bottom of the third on a Fagan home run over the right centerfield fence.

The Cherry & White ended things early with a productive fifth inning. Sam Schoell opened the frame with a single to right center. Robinson doubled to right centerfield, putting runners on second and third. It looked like St. Bonaventure was going to get out of it with no damage after recording two outs, but Knable continued her hot day at the plate with a single up the middle to plate Schoell. After Crystal Nyman drew a walk to pack the bases again, Michelle Lerner delivered the game-winner, a three-run double to left center to end the game in the fifth.

Marris improves to 7-7 on the mound after her 5.0 inning seven strikeout day. Sherri Thompson (4-5) took the loss for St. Bonaventure, going 4.2 innings and allowing eight runs on ten hits.

Temple improves to 9-17 overall and 1-2 in Atlantic 10 play. SBU is 5-11, 0-3 in the A-10. The Owls and Bonnies face each other again on Friday, April 2, at 3:00 p.m.
