Third-Seeded Women's Tennis Team Falls to #2 Richmond, 4-1, at A-10 Championship

Owls tie Charlotte for third place
SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – Playing for a spot in the championship match on Sunday, the Temple women's tennis team came up short against Richmond in the semifinals on April 24 at the Atlantic 10 Championshp. The third-seeded Owls dropped a 4-1 decision to the second-seeded Spiders. Richmond will face George Washington in the championship tilt at 8 a.m. Sunday morning.
Richmond got ahead early with a win at the doubles point. The Spiders number one duo defeated Josephine Bergman and Katharina Mittag in a close 8-6 decision. The point was decided with the third flight victory from UR's pair of Sydney Grant and Joanna Matuszczyk over Theresa Stangl and May Johnson, 8-4.
TU's lone point of the match came at number five. May Johnson finished her year strong, picking up her fifth-straight singles win in a 6-3, 6-1 decision against Matuszczyk. Richmond took the victory with wins at numbers one, two and three. The matches at four and six went unfinished.
The Owls end the year with an 11-12 overall record.
