Football among 300-plus student-athletes honored at 8th Annual Breakfast of Champions

PHILADELPHIA – Temple University honored its best in athletics, both on and off the field, at its eighth annual Breakfast of Champions Wednesday morning. In all, over 300 Temple student-athletes were recognized for academic and athletic accomplishments.

"The Breakfast of Champions is a celebration of what is special about athletics at Temple University," said Director of Athletics Bill Bradshaw, who instituted the event in 2003, his first full year at the school. "We annually recognize the `best of the best' in athletics at Temple."

At the Breakfast, 198 student-athletes were named to the Director's Honor Roll (3.0-3.49 cumulative grade point average) with an additional 50 student-athletes to the President's Honor Roll (3.50 or above). Named to the Director's Honor Roll from football were WR Ryan Alderman (Downingtown, Pa.), OL Cody Bohler (Branchburg, N.J.), TE Cody Booth (Millersville, Pa.), OL Pat Boyle (Towson, Md.), TE Matt Brookhart (Spring Grove, Pa.), TE Vaughn Charlton (Landenberg, Pa.), PK Malcolm Conway (Kingston, Pa.), DB Matt Falcone (Palmerton, Pa.), DT Grigory Frenk (Brooklyn, N.Y.), DB Justin Gildea (Hollidaysburg, Pa.), LB Marcus Green (Scotch Plains, N.J.), DB Josh Hutchison (Hollidaysburg, Pa.), DB Jaiquawn Jarrett (Brooklyn, N.Y.), DT Elisha Joseph (Hartford, Conn.), LB Zach Kane (Toms River, N.J.), TE Steve Maneri (Bound Brook, N.J.), PK Brandon McManus (Hatfield, Pa.), LB James Namude (Potomac, Md.), DT Dave Nwasike (Marietta, Ga.), TE Chris Parthemore (New Cumberland, Pa.), TE Anthony Pekarski (Levittown, Pa.), LB Dan Van Norton (Berwyn, Pa.), DE Cameron Wise (Pine Grove, Pa.), and OL Stephen Yuan (Glenside, Pa.). Earning President's Honor Roll distinction was PK Jake Brownell (Thorofare, N.J.).

Junior DB Jaiquawn Jarrett was named as the male recipient of the Enterprise Spirit and Sportsmanship Award, given annually to student-athletes who have demonstrated a devotion to the essence of sport through their acts of sportsmanship.

Junior LB Amara Kamara (Newark, N.J.) was named the male recipient of the Temple Teammates Award, given to student-athletes who have demonstrated leadership qualities in the area of community service, inspiring others to engage in similar selfless civic endeavors for the purpose of improving the quality of life for those in the local community.

Sophomore OL Steve Caputo (Kennett Square, Pa.) was named the NovaCare Comeback Student-Athlete of the Year, while the T.E.A.M Awards, an acronym standing for Temple's Exceptional Acts for Mankind, was presented to the women's soccer and football teams for their extraordinary record of community service. The T.E.A.M. Award is football's second consecutive community service recognition, winning the inaugural trophy in 2009.

Additionally, Micky Rozario read a proclamation from W. Curtis Thomas and the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in honor of football's successful 2009 season.
