Lacrosse Explodes in the Second Half for 12-8 Win at St. Bonaventure

4.9.10 | Women's Lacrosse

Stephanie Markunas records hat trick as Owls improve to 5-6 overall and 2-2 in the A-10

OLEAN, N.Y. – Scoring three goals to start the second half gave the Temple lacrosse team a lead it would not relinquish, and the Owls (5-6, 2-2) earned a 12-8 Atlantic 10 win on the road at St. Bonaventure (7-6, 2-2).

After struggling a year ago, the Owls have now surpassed their win total from 2009 and matched their conference wins with three still left to play. Next up is a home contest against Duquesne on Sunday, April 11 at 1:00 p.m.

Sophomore Stephanie Markunas notched her second hat trick in three games to lead Temple, and the Owls got two goals apiece from sophomore Shelby Christopher and freshman Stephany Parcell.

Neither team ever led by more than one goal in a back and forth first half. Parcell scored for the Owls just before the midway point of the half to give Temple a 4-3 advantage, its second lead after the Owls had also led at 3-2.

The Bonnies then tied and passed Temple down the stretch, scoring three goals to the Owls' one and leading 6-5 at halftime.

Sophomore Missy Schweitzer got the run going for Temple less than three minutes into the second half, and the Owls also got goals from Christopher and Ann Stouffer within the first six minutes to take an 8-6 lead.

After St. Bonaventure scored to pull within one at 8-7, freshman Keelin Hood answered with her first goal of the season, starting what would be a 4-0 run for Temple. Parcell, Markunas and Christopher all scored, and the Bonnies were held to just one goal the rest of the way.

Sophomores Kelsey Zenuk and Allison McWilliams each recorded a goal for the day, and senior goalkeeper Jess Colucci made eight saves for Temple.
