PHILADELPHIA - A total of 70 Temple University student-athletes participated in Thursday's 123rd annual Commencement ceremonies at the Liacouras Center. The Commencement exercises celebrated the achievements of the largest graduating class in Temple history with a total of 8,215 graduates.
Among those participating were three-time men's basketball Atlantic 10 Championship team member Ryan Brooks (Narberth, Pa.), All-American fencer Kristin Howell (San Antonio, Texas), football's Steve Maneri (Bound Brook, N.J.), who signed a free agent contract with the NFL's Houston Texans last month, Brittney McRae (Bronx, N.Y.), member of Temple's first-ever Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championship team, as well as Jackie Morrison (Stony Brook, N.Y.), second-team All-Atlantic 10 Conference volleyball player and a graduate of the University's Honors program.
“It is a day of celebration for Temple Athletics,” Director of Athletics Bill Bradshaw said. “We are most proud of our student-athletes' success in the classroom. This is a reflection of a reorganized academic support system which has helped bolster our APR scores. Our head coaches are to be congratulated for playing critical roles in this success.”
The 70 student-athletes represented all 24 of Temple's intercollegiate sports. Football had the most graduates with 11, while men's track followed with nine. The numbers include summer 2010 and fall 2009 graduates.
In celebration of the accomplishments of the graduating seniors, Temple Athletics hosted a reception following graduation exercises for the student-athletes and their families.
