Metzler and Schoell Named To Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team

PHILADELPHIA - Temple senior Krystle Metzler and sophomore Samantha Schoell have been honored as two of seven Owls named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area team, announced today. The pair are two of 10 student-athletes named to the academic all-area softball team, which is voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
Metzler, earning the role of team captain this past season, started 33 games for the Owls and commited just three errors in 169 chances. Boasting a cumulative grade point average of 3.87 as a business major, she was recognized as a member of Temple's "Trustee Ten" for having one of the top-10 grade point averages of all Temple student-athletes.
Schoell made 46 starts in either left or right field for the Owls this season, keeping her streak of 80 games without an error entact. She, along with Metzler, was honored as a member of Temple's "Trustee Ten" and also earned Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference honors owning a 3.95 grade point average as a mechanical engineering major.
The two are joined on the team by Ashley Botelho (Drexel), Mary Pat Conville (La Salle), Lauren Davis-Macedonia (Ursinus), Sam Ingersoll (West Chester), Bethany Pavlik (Delaware Val.), Dayna Phillips (U. of Sciences), Steph Taraschi (Rowan) and Nicolina Veneziano (Rowan).
