PHILADELPHIA – Temple sophomore Bernard Pierce (Ardmore, Pa.) has been named to the 2010 Maxwell Award Watch List, while junior Adrian Robinson (Harrisburg, Pa.) has been named to the 2010 Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List, the Maxwell Football Club announced.

The Maxwell Award has been presented to the outstanding collegiate football player in America since 1937 and is named in honor of sportswriter Robert W. “Tiny” Maxwell.

A 2010 preseason All-American and first-team All-Mid-American Conference honoree, Pierce was named the team's inaugural newcomer of the year. A 2009 Freshman All-American, MAC Freshman of the Year, and first-team All-MAC selection, he set the freshman records for yards (1,361), touchdowns (16), and 100-yard rushing games (6). He also set the single-season records for TDs (16) and points scored (96). Pierce is also a candidate for the Heisman Trophy. Fans and media can follow Pierce's progress throughout the season on his own website-- www.Pierce4Heisman.com as well as on Facebook under Pierce4Heisman.

The Chuck Bednarik Award is given to the college defensive player of the year. Presented since 1995, the award is named for the College Hall of Fame ('69) and NFL Hall of Fame ('67) linebacker.

A defensive end, Robinson was named the 2009 Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year as well as first-team All-MAC. He played in all 13 games with 10 starts at left end. Robinson led Temple and the MAC with 13 sacks, finishing the season with 46 tackles, including a team-best 14 TFL, a team-best five forced fumbles, three break-ups, and three hurries. He was also named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy in June.

Semifinals for both awards will be announced on November 8. Three finalists for each will be announced on November 22. The 2010 winners will be announced Dec. 9 during the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show. The Maxwell Football Club awards banquet is March 4, 2011, in Atlantic City.

Temple senior Jaiquawn Jarrett (Queens, N.Y.) was named to the 2010 Jim Thorpe Award Watch List, while junior Muhammad Wilkerson (Linden, N.J.) was named to the Outland Trophy Watch List.
