Owls Open Season on Sept. 3 with Villanova

PHILADELPHIA  – The Temple University football team continued training camp on Friday at Edberg-Olson Hall.

Owl Outlook: Day 14 video

Owl Outlook is back for Day 14 of training camp, with today's focus being on the offense, joining us for interviews today are center John Palumbo (Lyndhurst, N.J.) and Matt Balasavage (Lancaster, Pa.).

Palumbo, a redshirt  junior, is entering his fourth season with the Cherry and White after enrolling with the team in January of 2007. The 6-6, 312-lb. pivot has played both center and guard for the Owls, and was named third-team All-MAC in 2009, his first year as a starter. He will look to be a major contributor on an Offensive Line that won the Team MVP at the end of last year's exciting campaign.

Balasavage, also a redshirt junior, is one of the leaders at the tight end position for the Owls. At 6-4, 256 lbs, he was one of the main contributors in the run-game in 2009, playing in all 13 games behind current Houston Texan Steve Maneri. Balasavage, who has 20 games played and six starts under his belt, is by far the most experienced of the Temple tight ends. His ability to help the team as a receiver, pass protector and run blocker make him invaluable, and he will once again be a major factor in the Temple offense moving forward into 2010.

The Temple offense is led by offensive coordinator Matt Rhule, who is in his fifth season overall with the Cherry and White, his third as a coordinator. In 2009, Rhule's offense helped Temple win a single-season record nine consecutive games en route to a 9-4 overall record and first-place tie in the MAC East. A school record five offensive players were named All-MAC, including three on the first team. All-American Bernard Pierce rushed his way into the Temple record book, re-writing all records for a rookie en route to 2009 MAC Freshman of the Year honors.

The Temple video staff will provide insight into the team's progress with video reports posted every day after practice.

Practices are closed to the general public.

Temple opens the 2010 season on Friday, Sept. 3 with Villanova at 5 p.m. in the second annual Mayor's Cup at Lincoln Financial Field.
