Junior Niki Conn nets two goals in victory

Box Score | Postgame with head coach David Jones and junior Niki Conn

AMBLER, Pa.
- Junior Niki Conn's two-goal effort fueled the Temple women's soccer team (2-2-0) to a 4-3 win over Hartford (1-2-0) to close out the Owl Eyes Classic, Sunday afternoon at Ambler Sports Complex. Senior Kelly Diviny set up two goals, including the eventual game winner by redshirt-freshman Kristen Worth.

Conn got the Owls on the board early in the fourth minute, collecting a loose ball and ripping a shot that beat Hartford keeper Lauren Brodeur to the right side. Temple controlled the pace of play for much of the first half, and steadily pressured the net.

Diviny set up the next TU goal, sending a long pass to junior Allicia 'Sha' Yurkovic. Yurkovic dribbled past Brodeur for an empty net goal putting the Owls up 2-0 in the 16th minute.

The Hawks managed to score towards the end of the first half, as Alex Uscilla found Breeanna Robinson for a close angle shot to the upper left ninety to cut the Temple lead to 2-1.

The Owls held a slight advantage in shots after the first half, outshooting Hartford 7-6.

Temple extended its lead in the 51st minute, with head coach David Jones calling on Conn to take a penalty shot that she successfully placed right post to put the score at 3-1.

Again Hartford would attempt to mount a comeback, as Arielle Aikens netted unassisted in the 77th minute to cut the lead to one at 3-2.

The momentum swung back into Temple's favor just minutes later, as Diviny combined with Yurkovic who found an open Worth for the team's fourth goal of the game in the 81st minute. The goal was Worth's first points of her collegiate career.

Hartford's Robinson and Uscilla teamed up for one more tally, but in the end could not break the Temple defense for another score. The team's matched in the final stats with 13 shots each.

Owls' keeper Tara Murphy started in goal, making two saves to pick up her first win with the Cherry and White.

The final day of the 2010 Owl Eyes Classic featured earlier action from Drexel and Niagara. The Purple Eagles shutout the Dragons 1-0, en route to winning both games at Ambler this weekend.

Conn, along with sophomore Jackie Krostek and senior Julia Adden were named to the 2010 Owl Eyes Classic All-Tournament team for the Owls.  Drexel's Jenna Lindsay, Biz Matta and Megan Mahon, Niagara's Laura Kimoto, Ashleigh Bowers and Danielle Kennedy, along with Hartford's Breeanna Robinson, Alex Uscilla and Ariella Aikens were selected to the team.

Up next, the Temple women's soccer team travels to Albany on September 3 with action starting at 4:00 p.m.
