Owls Takes the Field for First Time
PHILADELPHIA – The Temple University football team opened training camp on Saturday at Edberg-Olson Hall.
The second season of Temple football's inside look at training camp has begun, featuring quick chats with two of the Owls' biggest leaders in safety Jaiquawn Jarrett and tight end Vaughn Charlton.
Jarrett, a first-team All-MAC performer in 2009, was recently named to the prestigious Jim Thorpe Award Watch List, given to college football's best defensive back. He has proven to be one of the leaders on defense since he first arrived in Philadelphia in 2007, and has played in every game of his college career. In 2010 he will be the elder statesman of a secondary that is loaded with talent, and a defense that is looking to hold up its reputation is one of the best in the conference.
Charlton was the focal point of one of the biggest stories to come out of spring practice after his decision to move from quarterback to tight end. The fifth-year senior started eight games under center for the Owls in 2009, including the team's loss to UCLA in the EagleBank Bowl. Don't expect anyone to take Charlton's move lightly either, especially after being named a preseason All-MAC selection by Phil Steele.
