Women's Soccer Late Comeback Stalled In 2-1 Loss To Miami

9.12.10 | Women's Soccer

Yurkovic nets team-leading fourth goal of the season

Box Score

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.
- Junior Allicia Yurkovic continues to move the Owls' attack forward, tallying a late goal from the foot of classmate Niki Conn in the 82nd minute of the Temple women's soccer team's (3-4-0) match against Miami (Ohio) (5-2-0). A pair of goals from the Red Hawks were too much for the Cherry and White to rally past, however, as TU fell in the final game of the ETSU Soccer Invitational presented by DoubleTree Hotels by a margin of 2-1.

Miami tallied almost immediately after the first whistle, as Courtney Clarke played a ball through for Katy Dolesh, who quickly chipped it past Owls' sophomore keeper Gillian Kacsuta. Kacsuta made five saves on the game, including four in the second half.

The Owls struggled to find their rhythm on offense in the first, being outshot 5-7 and only managing one attempt on goal.

Temple seemed energized out of the break, but the Red Hawks put an end to whatever momentum they had built. In the 62nd minute, MU's Rachel Byron found Jess Kodiak, who ripped a shot from 10-yards out into the back of the net.

Down 2-0, the Owls still would not go down without a fight. Conn and Yurkovic kept the pressure on, finally seeing their efforts pay off in the 82nd minute. Yurkovic took a pass from Conn in front of the net and buried it home to cut the defecit in half at 2-1. It would be the Owls' only goal of the afternoon.

Temple outshot Miami 9-6 in the second half and 14-13 over the match.

The Owls split this weekend at the ETSU Soccer Invitational.  All-tournament team honors went to Conn and senior Steph Ferretti.

Yurkovic is on fire as of late, tallying a point in each of the team's last four games and in all but one contest so far this season. She now leads the team in goals with four and points with 11. Conn is not far behind with 10 points, ranking first in assists with four.

The Temple women's soccer team continues on its lengthy road trip, traveling to compete at Vermont on Friday, September 17 and Maine on Sunday, September 19.
