PHILADELPHIA - Temple women's lacrosse will begin its fall schedule this weekend as the Owls travel to Hofstra University on Sept. 25 for the Nick Colleluori Classic to benefit the HeadStrong Foundation. Temple is one of 14 teams participating.
TU will host the Philly 5 Tournament next Saturday, Oct. 2, and then travel to the Friends of Jaclyn Classic in Massachusetts on Oct. 17. The Owls' Alumni Game is set for Oct. 23, and Temple will wrap up its fall schedule with a game against Stanford at Great Valley High School on Oct. 24.
The second annual Nick Colleluori Women's Lacrosse Classic will be held at the James M. Shuart Stadium at Hofstra this weekend.
The 14-team tournament will feature a multitude of activities available to people of all ages including: raffles, fastest shot competition and face painting. In addition, the Headstrong Foundation will be on site to talk about their cause and will be selling merchandise to support Headstrong.
The 29-game schedule will begin at 8:30 a.m. when Hofstra battles Vermont and New Hampshire takes on C.W. Post. The final game of the extravaganza will see Hofstra take on Temple at 5 p.m.
In addition to a great day of lacrosse, there will also be a variety of items associated with the HeadStrong Foundation for sale, including the lime green laces. All funds raised during the tournament will go directly to the HeadStrong Foundation.
Nick Colleluori was a member of the Pride Lacrosse team from 2004 to 2006. Nick lost his battle with blood cancer on November 28, 2006.
The HeadStrong Foundation is dedicated to Nick's life. He drew the logo as he was waiting to go into the operating room for a procedure. Because lacrosse was his passion and he can no longer carry the ball, his family and friends will carry the ball for him. The foundation's mission is to generate funds for cancer research, distribute grants and assistance to survivors of blood cancer, provide financial assistance to families that are experiencing the hardships of having a sick family member, and provide scholarships and grants for students with ambitions of entering the medical field.
