Owls Travel to Army on Saturday for Noon Match-up
CLEVELAND – Temple senior DB Jaiquawn Jarrett (Brooklyn, N.Y) has earned the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor for the East division, the MAC announced on Monday.
Jarrett also earned OwlSports.com Athlete of the Week honors.
In Saturday's 22-13 decision at No. 23/20 Penn State, Jarrett led all defenders with 11 tackles. Temple led Penn State at the half (13-9) for the first time in the Big Ten era (since 1993). The game was the closest in the series with Penn State since a 27-25 Penn State win on Sept. 14, 1985.
After four games, Jarrett is tied as the Owls' leader with 28 tackles, including 16 solos. He also has a fumble recovery.
The MAC honor is the second of Jarrett's career and his first this season. He is the fourth Owl to earn conference recognition this fall. Sophomore PK Brandon McManus (Hatfield, Pa.) earned Specialist of the Week accolades on Sept. 6, while junior DT Muhammad Wilkerson (Linden, N.J.) earned Defensive POW on Sept. 13, and sophomore RB Bernard Pierce (Ardmore, Pa.) earned Offensive POW honors on Sept. 20.
Temple (3-1, 1-0 MAC) travels to Army (3-1) on Saturday, Oct. 2 for a Noon game at Michie Stadium. The CBS College Sports Network will televise the game nationally.
