Owls get first Atlantic 10 win with their highest hitting percentage of the season

PHILADELPHIA – With their best hitting percentage of the season, the Temple volleyball team took down city and Atlantic 10 rival La Salle (4-15, 0-3) by a score of 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon. The Owls (3-13, 1-2) won by scores of 25-21, 25-12 and 25-18. They were led by Jess Antosz with 10 kills, five aces and four blocks.
Antosz committed only one error on 16 attacks to hit an impressive .562 for the match. As a team, Temple hit .375 en route to its second win over La Salle this season.
Ariel Pierre averaged over four digs per set and led all players with 13 total digs, also tallying two aces. Rikia Trischuck averaged more than 10 assists per set, finishing with a match-high 32. Jovana Radojevic knocked down eight kills and Ashley Carr recorded seven kills and seven digs.
The first set was the closest of the three as the Owls found their stride, and the score was tied a total of 10 times early on. Temple finally pulled away with a 5-0 run midway through the set, and the Owls were able to hold off the Explorers the rest of the way.
Temple out-hit La Salle .462 to .043 in the second set, easily cruising to a 25-12 win. Carr tallied four of her kills in the second set and committed zero errors.
Radojevic led the Owls in the third set with five kills, and Temple held a steady lead nearly the entire way.
The Owls will have the rest of the week off, but will be back in action with three home matches next week. First up is a non-conference tilt against Long Island at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 5.
