Temple Women's Tennis Heads to Saint Joseph's Fall Invitational This Weekend

Owls look to follow up strong play from a weekend ago
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Temple women's tennis team will be heading across town this weekend for the Saint Joseph's Invitational, held on the Maguire and Finnesey Courts on October 1-3, 2010. The Owls are one of eight teams competing in the tournament.
The Owls head into the tournament coming off a successful appearance at the Cissie Leary Invitational at the University of Pennsylvania last weekend. Senior Theresa Stangl and freshman Yana Mavrina both advanced to the finals of the consolation draw.Head coach Steve Mauro is confident that the Cherry and White will have a successful weekend. When asked of his expectations for this weekend, Mauro stated, “My expectations for this tournament is be in the finals of every flight. I feel this year we have one of our strongest teams and based upon our performance last week, we should have a good showing.”
Play at the Saint Joseph's Fall Invitational begins Friday October 1 with doubles action. TU's duo of Theresa Stangl and Jordan Batey will face Alexis McCoy and Nekesa Thomas of Morgan State, while Alicia Doms and Christine Clermont square off against the host team pair of Sally Kalani Stainier and Maggie Mullaney in the opening round on Maguire courts at 2 p.m. At the same time, Mellana Cramer and Carly Bohman will be taking on Michelle Meadows and Cassie Bowen of Mary Washington at the Finnesey courts.
Singles play begins at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. Stangl, Batey, Doms and Clermont each have a match at that time, while Cramer and Bohman make their singles debut at 11:30 a.m.
