Box Score

EASTON, Pa.
- The Temple men's soccer team (0-1-1) fell to Lafayette (3-0-0) in the final game of the Puma Classic, Sunday afternoon at Oaks Stadium. A converted penalty kick midway through the first half gave the Pumas a 1-0 advantage, while the Owls pressured steadily throughout the contest with five shots on goal.

The physical tone of the game was set from the start and in the end a total of 46 fouls were called on both sides. Along with it, fans saw a total of 10 cards handed out between the two teams.

In the 26th minute, Owls' junior Cody Calafiore was whistled for a controversial foul resulting in a yellow card and also a penalty kick for Lafayette. The Pumas called on Sean Peckham to take the kick, who succesfully converted.

Temple controlled the pace of play for most of the game, keeping the Lafayette attack under control as well. Redshirt-senior keeper Bret Mollon was only forced to make on save on the day, while the Owls offense outshot their foe 11-5.

Senior Max Kinderwater led the way with three shots, including a header in the 26th minute that forced Lafayette keeper Andrew Pianko to make a tough stop. Freshman Vaughn Spurrier made his first collegiate start today, posting two shots.

The Cherry and White placed third in the tournament, with Mollon and sophomore Homero Rodriguez earning all-tournament team honors.

The Owls next compete at Ambler Sports Complex for the first time this season, hosting Drexel in a Soccer Six match on September 11 at 2:00 p.m.
