Safety Becomes Seventh Owl to Play in Game
PHILADELPHIA – Temple safety Jaiquawn Jarrett (Brooklyn, N.Y.) has been selected to play in the 2011 Under Armour Senior Bowl on January 29 in Mobile, Ala. The game will be televised on the NFL Network, kicking off at 4 p.m. ET from Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
The Senior Bowl is the nation's premier pre-draft event, annually featuring the country's best senior collegiate football players and top NFL draft prospects on teams, representing the North and South, coached by the entire coaching staffs of two National Football League teams. In 2010, Detroit Lions' head coach Jim Schwartz and his staff coached the North team to a 31-13 victory over the South team, coached by Miami Dolphins' head coach Tony Sparano and his staff.
Jarrett is the seventh Temple Owl to participate in the prestigious bowl since 1972 and the first since RB Stacey Mack's appearance in 1998. Following the 2009 season, LB Alex Joseph, TE Steve Maneri, and NT Andre Neblett participated in the Texas vs. The Nation All-Star Classic.
A 2010 Pro Football Weekly All-American, the Temple senior received the 2010 Owl Award as Temple's most valuable player, as well as the Captains' Award, at the team's annual banquet.
A two-time first-team All-MAC honoree, team captain Jarrett started all 12 games at free safety in 2010 and played in every game of his collegiate career with 43 starts. The Owls' top defender with 74 tackles, Jarrett also had two interceptions, two break-ups, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery this season.
Named to the prestigious Jim Thorpe Award Watch List, Jarrett was the recipient of the 2010 National Football Foundation & College Football Hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete and the 2010 Enterprise Spirit & Sportsmanship Awards.
On Temple's all-time charts, Jarrett finished his career ranked No. 9 in interceptions (9) and No. 11 in tackles (299).
