Box Score (PDF)
SAINT LOUIS, Mo. - Andrea Beaty and Alyssa Deno combined for almost half of the Billikens' kills as Saint Louis defeated Temple volleyball in straight sets on Friday night by scores of 25-16, 25-16 and 25-15. Saint Louis (9-8, 5-2) hit an impressive .351 as a team, while the Owls (6-13, 2-4) struggled on offense for most of the night.
Collin Wallace and Gabriella Matautia led Temple with eight kills apiece in the match, and Wallace made it a double-double with 10 digs. Chelsea Tupuola led all players in the match with 14 digs for the Owls.
Temple started off well in the first set, but after being within a point at 14-13, things unraveled for the Owls. Hitting errors were costly as Temple finished the set with eight of them, compared to just four for Saint Louis as the Billkens later closed out the set with five straight points. Matautia recorded five kills in the first set while Wallace came up with six digs.
The margin of victory for the Billikens was the same in the second set, 25-16, but they put the Owls out of the set early with a 9-2 run that included four kills from Beaty. The Owls nearly matched Saint Louis the rest of the way, but the damage was done as the Billikens took a 2-0 lead in the match.
Saint Louis kept the momentum going in the third and final set, taking an early lead and increasing it down the stretch for a 25-15 win. Aleksandra Niemiec recorded kills for four of the Billikens' final five points of the match.
Temple will have a full day of travel before playing at Duquesne on Sunday, Oct. 16 in a 1:00 p.m. match.
