PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Temple volleyball team struggled to recover from a lackluster opening set and was ultimately defeated in three sets at Duquense by scores of 25-10, 25-16 and 25-21. The Owls (6-14, 2-5) got a double-double of 11 kills and 10 digs from sophomore Elyse Burkert, and a match-best 15 digs from junior Chelsea Tupuola.

Duquesne (15-7, 5-3) was led by Sara Scheirman with 10 kills and 13 digs. Teammate Liz Homan also recorded 10 kills while committing zero errors in the match.

The Dukes set the tone early in the first set and cruised from there en route to the 25-10 win. Temple continued to improve in each subsequent set, and made a four-point run at the end of the third set to make things interesting.

Duquesne's blocking was key in its offensive power, as the Dukes totaled 12 team blocks to Temple's one.

Temple got a strong performance from sophomore Emily Frazer who knocked down five kills with zero errors, also recording a block and an ace in the match.

The Owls will return home for two matches next weekend, starting with a 7:00 p.m. contest against George Washington on Friday, Oct. 21.
