PHILADELPHIA - "Dig Pink" returns to McGonigle Hall this weekend as the Temple volleyball team looks to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research at their match against George Washington on Friday, Oct. 21 at 7:00 p.m. The Owls will also be at home on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. against Charlotte. Temple is excited to be part of the Side-Out Foundation and Dig Pink campaign. Education is key to increasing awareness and knowledge about the disease. The players, coaches, parents, volunteers, spectators and survivors will be in for a special evening. Please join in if at all possible, and if you decide to attend, please wear something pink. The team has also purchased pink wristbands to be sold at both matches and around campus this week. On Thursday, Oct. 20, the Owls will have a Bake Sale in Temple's Alter Hall from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The Owls are looking to get back on the winning track after two tough road losses at Saint Louis and Duquesne last weekend. Just under halfway through the Atlantic 10 schedule, Temple sits in seventh place among 10 teams in the conference with a record of 2-5. George Washington is 15-6 overall and fifth in the A-10 at 4-3, while Charlotte is 7-12 overall but just 1-6 in conference play.

Collin Wallace, last week's A-10 co-Offensive Player of the Week, leads Temple with 3.43 kills per set and is second on the team with 3.13 digs per set. Gabriella Matautia ranks second with 3.13 kills per set while Elyse Burkert is right there with 3.12 kills per set. Chelsea Tupuola has been strong at the libero position this season and is averaging 4.24 digs per set.

Freshman setter Tiffany Connatser has stepped in to fill a big role for the Owls, and is averaging 9.79 assists per set along with 2.64 digs per set.

George Washington is riding a three-match win streak coming into Friday's contest, and the Colonials' only loss in their last six matches was to Dayton (undefeated in the A-10). GW won all three of its non-conference tournaments early in the season.

Charlotte won its most recent match at home against Fordham, 3-1. Prior to that the 49ers had started 0-6 in league play, but the six losses were to the current top six teams in the A-10.
