Box Score (PDF)
PHILADELPHIA - Andrea Beaty of Saint Louis led all players with 18 kills in leading her team to a 3-0 sweep of Temple volleyball on Sunday afternoon, by scores of 25-21, 25-14 and 25-10. The Owls (7-17, 3-8 Atlantic 10) kept the first set close, but struggled to find any offense in the second and third sets as Saint Louis (12-9, 8-3) took charge.
Temple got six kills from Gabriella Matautia and five from Elyse Burkert, and Chelsea Tupuola led the team with 12 digs.
The first set saw 10 ties and six lead changes as the teams looked to be playing on a fairly even level, and Matautia was strong for the Owls with five of her kills in the first set. It was a couple late errors that made the difference as the Billikens took a 1-0 lead for the match.
Both teams displayed their weakest hitting of the match in the second set, but for Temple the wheels fell off after the halfway point as the Owls struggled to get anything going. Beaty recorded 10 of her kills in the third set, proving nearly unstoppable for Saint Louis, and the Billikens also out-blocked Temple 4-0 in the final set.
The match was the last of four in a row at home for Temple, as the Owls will now play two A-10 matches on the road next weekend. First up is a 7:00 p.m. contest at Fordham on Friday, Nov. 4.
