McManus Named Ray Guy Award Candidate

Owls Travel to Ohio for MAC East Showdown on Wednesday
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Temple junior Brandon McManus (Hatfield, Pa.) is one of 54 players named as candidates for the 2011 Ray Guy Award, given to the nation's top collegiate punter, the Augusta Sports Council announced on Monday.
A three-year placekicker, McManus has taken over punting duties for the first time this season. Statistically, he ranks No. 2 nationally (47.7, Oct. 30) and No. 1 in the MAC in punting. He set the school record for with a 59.3 punting average against Buffalo (Oct. 15).
In eight games, McManus has punted 29 times for 1,382 yards (47.7 avg.) with 8 touchbacks; 9 punts inside the 20; and 13 punts longer than 50 yards.
The Ray Guy candidate list will be narrowed to ten semifinalists to be announced on November 11. Following the semifinalists announcement, a national body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) sports information directors, coaches, media representatives, and previous Ray Guy Award winners will vote for the top three finalists, who will be identified on November 21. The voting body will then cast ballots to select the winner.
The presentation of the Ray Guy Award will be featured on The Home Depot College Football Awards live on Thursday, December 8 at 9: p.m. on ESPN. The show, hosted by ESPN's Chris Fowler, Lee Corson, Kirk Herbstreit and Desmond Howard, will feature live presentation of nine player awards, along with the recipients of Disney's Spirit Award, The Home Depot Coach of the Year Award, the NCFAA (National College Football Awards Association) Contributions to College Football Award, and student-athletes selected to the Walter Camp All-America Team.
Temple (5-3 overall, 3-2 MAC) travels to Ohio (5-3, 2-2 MAC) on Wednesday, Nov. 2 for an 8 p.m. MAC East showdown on ESPN.
Temple returns home to Lincoln Financial Field on Wednesday, Nov. 9 to host Miami [OH] in a nationally televised game on ESPN. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.
