Owls take down the Explorers for the second time this season

PHILADELPHIA (Tom Gola Arena) - Elyse Burkert knocked down a match-high 20 kills while Collin Wallace recorded a double-double of 18 kills and 21 digs to lead the Temple volleyball team to a 3-1 win at La Salle on Thursday night. Tiffany Connatser also notched a double-double with 45 assists and 20 digs as Temple (6-12, 2-3) won by scores of 25-17, 24-26, 25-19 and 25-20 against La Salle (5-17, 1-4).
Gabriella Matautia tallied nine kills to go with 10 digs for Temple, while Chelsea Tupuola recorded 17 digs and three aces in the win.
Samantha Tulskie led the Explorers offensively and defensively with 15 kills and 24 digs.
After a 10-10 tie in the first set, the Owls cruised the rest of the way, hitting an impressive .368 as a team in the set and closing out with the final four points to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Temple struggled with hitting errors and fell into an early hole in the second set. The Owls were down by as many as eight, 22-14, before mounting an impressive comeback to tie the score at 24-24, but a Tulskie kill followed by an error on Temple put the match at 1-1.
The Owls pulled away early in the third set but had to fight off La Salle at the end as the Explorers tried to do what Temple had done in the previous set. La Salle fought off four set points to get to 24-19, but Matautia put the set away with a kill on an assist from Connatser.
The fourth set saw Temple with only a two-point lead at 20-18 before closing out the match with five of the final seven points, which included two kills from Burkert.
The Owls will have a break until playing again next Friday at Saint Louis.
