Pair of Second Half GW Goals Beats Temple, 2-0

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Coming out of a scoreless half, George Washington found a way to get the best of the Owls, as it pounded two shot for goals in the game's final 33 minutes to down Temple in a 2-0 shutout fashion at Mount Vernon Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Owls opened the game strong as they launched 11 shots in the opening 45 minutes, but managed to come up empty. Alejandro Almodovar got in the way of all six shots that were sent in on net, helping the GW netminder to post the shutout victory.
GW began its bid at defeating the Owls in the 57th minute when Seth Rudolph was set up by Abdul Shaban and Mattia Melillo for the game's first goal. In the 88th minute, Melillo set up another offensive drive, helping him complete a two-assist day when he found Yoni Berhanu for sent a cross pass to Zach Abaie for the goal inside the box.
Sophomore Dalton Carroll caused GW and its fans to hold their breath in the 79th minute when he nailed a potential game-tying header on the cross bar. Senior Tyler Witmer scrambled for two more scoring chances later on.
Between the 84th and 86th minute, Witmer ripped two shot on net, but were stopped by Almodovar both times. Witmer finished with a game-high five shots, four of which landed on goal.
With the loss, the Owls drop to an even 1-1-0 record in Atlantic 10 play, adjusting their overall record to 5-6-0. Temple now moves on to round out its current five-game road swing when it heads to Saint Joseph's on Saturday afternoon for a 5:00 p.m. match with the Hawks at Finnesey Field.
