Temple Falls to Tulsa in First Conference Game

Tulsa, Okla. - Temple men's soccer (0-4-2) fell to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (3-2-1), 4-1, on the road Friday night. It marks the first conference game of the season for the Owls. Temple returns to the Temple Sports Complex on Tuesday, Sept. 15 to kickoff three-straight home games.
How It Happened
The Golden Hurricane got on the board early after Luc Achermann-Stanfield scored a penalty kick in the 10th minute. Gavin Atkinson was shown a red card in the 19th minute for touching the ball outside the box. Dylan Kaye would replace him, marking his first collegiate appearance. Achermann-Stanfield would notch another one in the final 30 seconds of the first half to put Tulsa up, 2-0, through the first frame.
In the 55th minute, Christian Mezas scored the third goal for Tulsa. Cale Saunders scored a header past Kaye in the 68th minute to give the Golden Hurricane a 4-0 advantage. A few minutes later, Carlos Rojas would score a remarkable bicycle kick from inside the box to deny Carlito Saylon a shutout in the 73rd minute. Tulsa finished the contest with 28 shots, 15 of which were on target. The Golden Hurricane also had 10 corner kicks.
