Four Women's Tennis Players Compete at Hofstra Fall Invitational

Breland and Rozite active in doubles play; join Doms and Osei in singles action
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Play continued for members of the Temple women's tennis team at the Hofstra Fall Invitational, being held at the Hofstra Tennis Center on October 7-9, 2011.
Rebecca Breland and Agnese Rozite picked up right where they left off in doubles play on Friday, defeating Julianna Frey and Ana Mendes of Concordia, 8-1, in semifinals of the consolation bracket. The pair then claimed the bracket title with a 9-7 defeat of Concordia's Clara Catanzano and Yuliya Plevaco.
In singles action, Alicia Doms earned the top seed. The sophomore defeated her opening round opponent, Nina Mayevska of NJIT, 6-3, 6-4. She went on to beat Concordia's Frey, 6-1, 6-2, in the next round to advance to the semifinal round to face fourth-seeded Monika Graff of NJIT on Sunday.
Maame Ama Osei fell in her opening singles match, 7-6, 6-0, to Plevaco, but bounced back with a consolation round win over Hofstra's Bianca Derrick, 6-2, 6-1. The rookie will face Mayevska in the consolation semis on Sunday.
Breland, seeded third at singles, took a 6-2, 6-3, decision over Malissa Galanchi of Hofstra in the opening round. Her play was halted in the next round with a challenging 7-6, 7-5 loss to NJIT's Ksenia Kuzmenko.
Rozite won her first singles match, defeating Jana Luste of NJIT, 6-4, 6-1. The junior's quest for a title fell short when she came up against second-seeded Elena Ivanova of Hofstra, falling 6-3, 7-5.
