Women's Tennis Competes at Hofstra Fall Invitational

Play begins with doubles action on Friday
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Temple women's tennis team sent four members to the Hofstra Fall Invitational, held at the Hofstra Tennis Center on Friday-Sunday, October 7-9, 2011. Rebecca Breland, Alicia Doms, Maame Ama Osei and Agnese Rozite represented the Owls at the tournament.
Play began on Friday afternoon with doubles action. Breland and Rozite teamed up, while Doms and Osei were TU's other doubles tandem.
After a bye in the opening round, Breland and Rozite dropped an 8-5 decision to Monika Graff and Carolina Zanotta of NJIT. The pair rebounded with an 8-0 blanking of Hofstra's Paige Polizois and Bianca Derrick in the consolation quarterfinals. The two newcomers will face Julianna Frey and Ana Mendes of Concordia in the consolation semifinals on Saturday morning.
Doms and Osei were successful in their opening round match, handing NJIT pair Martina Tripcovici and Megan Guidry an 8-3 defeat. The duo then defeated Yuliya Plevaco and Clara Catanzano of Concordia, 8-4. Doms and Osei's run finally came to an end with an 8-3 loss to Jana Luste and Nina Mayevska of NJIT.
Doubles play resumes Saturday morning, following by the opening rounds of singles play.
