PHILADELPHIA – Members of the Temple University football team took time to make several special deliveries on Thursday in anticipation of next week's Thanksgiving celebration.

Head coach Steve Addazio, his wife Kathy, and players-- senior TE Matt Balasavage (Lancaster, Pa.), sophomore LB Blaze Caponegro (Allenwood, N.J.), sophomore LB Sean Daniels (Blackwood, N.J.), r-freshman DL Wanemi Omuso (Burlington, N.J.), sophomore OL Darryl Pringle (Reading, Pa.)-- delivered boxes and bags of collected canned food items to the Bethesda Project (722 North Broad Street, one of Bethesda Project's 12 residences and shelters).

The Owl players, coaches, and staff have been collecting canned food items the last two weeks during their fifth annual Thanksgiving Food Drive to aid homeless and formerly homeless men and women through the Bethesda Project.

Then the entourage stopped by St. John's Hospice (1221 Race Street). There the players unloaded 36 full turkey dinners, including a 10-12 lb. turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, rolls, gravy, and pumpkin pie. The dinners were made possible through monetary donations. All players on the team donated their per diem to the cause.

“Through the collective efforts of our student-athletes, managers, trainers, coaches, and all of the employees of Edberg-Olson Hall, Temple football proudly delivered food to both the Bethesda Project and St. John's Hospice here in our community,” head coach Steve Addazio said.  “We are inspired by the impact that our student-athletes are having in the community. We are hopeful that the collective efforts of our football program will bring both nourishment and joy to more than 300 people this Thanksgiving season here in the City of Philadelphia.”

Temple (6-4, 4-3 MAC) hosts Army (3-7) on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 1 p.m. at Lincoln Financial Field.  In honor of Military Appreciation Day, the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve will be collecting toys prior to the game. Fans may donate new, unwrapped toys to Toys for Tots at the stadium gates from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.  The Toys for Tots Program collects and distributes toys as gifts to needy children in the community during the holiday season.
