Lacrosse Picked Fourth in A-10 Poll; Owls Set for Fast-Approaching 2011 Season

Temple begins the regular season at home on February 23 vs. Rutgers

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The host team of the 2011 Atlantic 10 Lacrosse Championships, Temple, has been picked to finish fourth in the preseason poll in a vote by the league's eight head coaches. The Owls would earn a berth in their own tournament by placing fourth or higher in the standings.

UMass, the A-10 defending champ, was picked to repeat as the winner again in 2011. Rounding out the top four are Richmond in second and La Salle in third.

"The preseason poll lets everyone know that the lacrosse season is right around the corner,” said Temple fifth-year head coach Bonnie Rosen. “Polls are a fun way to generate buzz about the upcoming season and this will surely be an exciting season for A-10 lacrosse. Fourth place is a fair assessment as that is how we finished out the season last year. Of course, this is a new year and we are working hard now so that we can create the outcome that we desire- an A-10 Championship!”

Prior to hosting Rutgers in the regular season opener on Wednesday, Feb. 23, Temple will participate in a four-team round robin scrimmage at Yale on Saturday, Feb. 19.

The Yale Play Day will see Temple playing in three games consisting of 25-minute halves with five-minute halftimes. The Owls will face Adelphi at 1:00 p.m., Quinnipiac at 3:00 p.m. and host Yale at 4:00 p.m.

After playing two of their first three games at home (Rutgers and UC Davis on March 4), the Owls will head to Florida for a second straight season. Temple will play at Jacksonville as part of a doubleheader with the Jaguars' men's team on March 9 at 7:00 p.m., and the Owls will play at Florida on March 12. The head coach of the Florida Gators is former Temple Hall of Famer Mandee O'Leary.

The following weekend has the Owls on the road again, facing two opponents from the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). Temple plays at Delaware on March 19 and at Towson on March 22. The Owls return home for non-conference games against Lehigh and Lafayette before beginning A-10 play at defending champ UMass on April 1.

The Atlantic 10 Championships will be held at Temple's own Geasey Field, with the semifinals set for Friday, April 29, and the title game set for Sunday, May 1.
